Wrapping Up 2017

Wow, what a year it’s been! Lots of action (and by action here, I primarily mean writing), and as 2017 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to look back at some of the high notes that I don’t do nearly a good enough job sharing.

So think of this as a year in review, courtesy of your friends as www.jessehaynesauthor.com. (I say this as if I have a staff. Big dreams, friends.)

For one thing, I’m still in college and fighting to maintain busy classroom schedules with everything else I’m doing outside college. I’ve made some good friends this year–friends who will beta read for me (you know who you are)–and I’ve traveled to several different schools and conferences to share Special, which has been an… ordeal. I won’t chase those rabbits, but let me say this: if you are interested in getting your hands on a copy, email me.  Amazon will have them at some point.

Also, TU wrote a really nice story about me this year (yes, they let the conservative, Republican male speak). You can read it HERE. They did a great job making me sound like I know what I’m talking about, ha!

In 2017 I visited the Encyclomedia Conference in Oklahoma City–always a blast–and I’m already planning on a repeat next year. This was my fourth year, and it was AMAZING, as always.

This year also brought me to the Louisiana Book Festival, a fancy-pants festival for a trillion book lovers in Baton Rouge and the surrounding area. The best part of the trip was the incredible LSU Lab School (6-8 grade), which bought copies of Special for every single student and hosted one of the most insanocrazily cool book visits of all time. All the kids had ready Creepers before I arrived and it was a wonderful day full of lots of laughs and fun.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the year, however, was my success in the world of podcasting. As most of you know, I started my first show last August, Cryptid Creatures, and eventually that led to The Others  and The Mazie Meadows Morning Show.  The latter two have been downloaded over 1,000,000 times, and both made it into the top 50 on iTunes. (There are over 2,000,000 podcasts, so this is more impressive than it sounds.)

In 2017 I finished 2 novel manuscripts–or at least revised one and finished one–and I am thinking that at least one of the two will be out for all you excited readers in 2018, and it won’t be the ordeal that Special has been, I pray.

I’m already writing season 2 of Mazie Meadows, and I have my next novel idea ready to roll, so that will all be coming soon.

I’m thinking about selling apparel in 2018 if you want to support your favorite young adult, young adult author. (Or podcast!)

Also, The Last Jedi comes out this month, so I’ll leave you with that to get you fired up.

All the best!

– Jesse
